Narrows fares may get wider | Transportation

Get ready to probably dig a little deeper to cross the Tacoma Narrows come July 1.

The Washington State Transportation Commission is proposing increasing fares from $2.75 to $3.25 for vehicles with transponders and from $4 to $5 for those who use the toll-booths.

Since that proposal is more than requested by the citizen advisory committee recommended, the advisory group gets 20 days to respond. They had recommended no increase in the rate for transponder traffic.

Before any final decision is made, there will be public hearings first.
